Our Approach
Jewels In A Crown methodology combines two approaches:
Focused on mobilizing existing resources, experience, and skills in a community
Looks at what a community has, not what a community lacks
Rooted in people, relationships, and hope, rather than being rooted in outside services and finances
Shifts the focus from problems to possibilities, and helps community members identify themselves as someone that can make a change
Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)
Focused on empowering those impacted by a problem with the knowledge and skills to understand that problem
Encourages and facilitates community members to then work cooperatively together to deal with the problem
Community Capacity Development
How does this practically look for improving women’s health in low resource environments?
Understand the problem:
Work with local partners to identify the health issue, its root causes, and the priorities of women in the community
Build on what already exists:
Identify local knowledge, skills, relationships, services, and other resources that can be strengthened and mobilized
Find the right approach:
Bring together local knowledge and proven health approaches to develop solutions that fit the community’s culture, priorities, and available resources
Equip local partners to lead:
Provide the knowledge, tools, and ongoing support needed for local partners to implement, evaluate, and sustain the work themselves
